Sunday was the university masters open with participants from 22 colleges across California and Mexico.
Some of the athletes also come from as far as Japan and South Korea, including a three time Olympian pole-vaulter.
Organizers say the goal of the "Run for the Dream" program is to motivate young people to achieve success in all areas of their lives.
Run for the Dream Project Director Bob Fraley Said, "They say I can jump, I can throw, I can run... Go to classroom, maybe can do math and science.. the light kind of comes on for people that way."
Monday, more than 1,000 high school students from across California will compete in the state high school indoor meet at the Save Mart Center.
The event runs from 8 a.m. Until 4 p.m.
