Authorities: Valley woman attempts to put out fire herself

Investigators are trying to determine why a woman tried to fight a fire in her home all by herself instead of calling 911.

The flames broke out Friday morning at a mobile home on Jameson and California Avenues, near Kerman. Fire officials say a member of the fire department was driving by when he noticed smoke coming from the area and drove closer to take a look.

Tony Escobedo, Fresno Fire Battalion Chief said, "She found this structure behind us on fire. The occupant tried to put it out with a garden hose."

The fire department was called out and extinguished the flames, but the home and one car were destroyed and three other cars were damaged.
