A South Valley rescue mission now has a friendlier atmosphere during meal-time.

San Joaquin Valley College staff and students helped revamp the dining room of the Visalia Rescue Mission. SJVC painted the walls, hung up some new artwork, plus provided new eating trays, utensils and bowls.

The Visalia Rescue Mission serves more than 500 meals a day to those in need.

San Joaquin Valley College said it wanted to give back to the Visalia community and the rescue mission was the perfect place to do it.

Michael Perry Of The San Joaquin Valley College said, "we hope we make a difference in their lives by helping the facility upgrade its image it helps the individuals upgrade their personal image and their self-esteem grows as a result and that's really what the rescue mission is about (it's about bringing people to the best they can be."

Students from San Joaquin Valley College also helped prepare some tasty snacks and serve meals at the rescue mission today.
