It was held at the Clovis North Education Center. Both middle and high school teams battled in 23 different events in all aspects of the science, math and technology fields.
The national competition was started 23 years ago and aims to encourage students to pursue careers in science and mathematics.
Local students even built gliders which is a new event at this year's competition.
Jennifer Weibert Of The Fresno County Office Of Education said, "The gliders is an event our junior high kids do, they have to put them together and make them before they come and whoever can fly it for the longest distance wins."
The top four teams in each division will compete in the state tournament next month.
