Redlands Fire Department engine vandalized by teen

REDLANDS, Calif.

Firefighters were heading south on Olive Avenue with the truck's sirens blaring around 1 a.m. when they noticed a boy impeding the engine from passing.

As the fire engine came to a complete stop to avoid hitting the boy, the suspect reportedly jumped on the front bumper of the engine. Police said that's when the boy began to strike the windshield with his head and fists, damaging the windshield.

Firefighters quickly moved the teen to a grassy area to determine if he had been injured. A struggle shortly ensued as firefighters attempted to calm the boy down.

The underage suspect was then transported to a local hospital where he was treated for being under the influence of controlled substances. He was arrested for vandalism and interfering with emergency personnel and released to his parents.

Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681.
