This 28-acre piece of vacant farmland will soon be home to a $40 million multi-use development project by Pacific Rim Companies out of Malibu. The Porterville city council recently approve the project, which will feature upscale market-rate apartments, an 18-thousand square foot office building, personal storage facility, retail and affordable housing.
Pacific Rim says the upscale apartments will feature several swimming pools and rec centers, plus a 40-thousand square foot neighborhood center.
Porterville City Manager John Lollis says the building of the new $90 million courthouse on Olive Street, was a major factor in the developer bringing the project to town.
Jody Mead runs meetings at the church next door to the property. She loves the idea of the new development, but hopes the developer replaces the project's plans for fast food, with actual sit-down restaurants.
Lollis says city council members had some concerns about the potential traffic safety hazards for students at nearby Monache High School.
Pacific Rim Companies will break ground on the project this summer.
