FPD uses witness to track mall shooter

FRESNO, Calif.

The shooting happened last night inside the mall at Blackstone and Shields Avenues in Central Fresno.

Police say it started as a domestic situation between a barber and his ex-girlfriend and escalated to a shooting.

Police say the barber's ex-girlfriend showed up with two men who started a fist fight with the barber. Investigators say the barber was basically beating the two men up until they left and came back with a gun.

Colima's fade shop reopened for business Thursday morning, but not many customers showed up.

Wednesday night, barbers working at another fade shop next door said they either ran for cover or hit the floor, the moment they heard gunfire. This barber didn't want to show his face for fear of retaliation. He was in the middle of a haircut when he noticed a commotion outside the shop.

Police say they recovered surveillance video from cameras inside Manchester center. Although business was slowing down at the time, several people in the mall did see the suspect, who took off running after the shooting.

This barber told Action News he jumped into action to help the little boy whose hair he was cutting at the time.

Other nearby businesses say they've noticed the barber shops have attracted crowds that can get loud.

Fortunately, Manchester Center security officers arrived just minutes after the shooting to help the 47-year-old victim who was hit.

She underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
