DEA fugitive caught in Northridge after escaping South Carolina jail

NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES

Charles Dwight Ransom Jr. was arrested Wednesday night after being on the run for nearly two years.

Ransom walked out of a county jail in South Carolina after forcing an outgoing inmate to swap identification wristbands. He returned to Los Angeles and eluded authorities for 16 months.

Ransom was originally jailed on charges of cocaine distribution and money laundering in November 2011. He is expected to be arraigned sometime on Thursday.
