Fresno family files lawsuit against FPD

FRESNO, Calif.

The suit stems from a deadly officer involved shooting last June when 29-year-old Jaime Reyes was shot to death on the back of the Aynesworth Elementary School campus in southeast Fresno.

At the time police said Reyes refused to stop for officers and reached for his waist band several times before he was shot. Chief Dyer said Reyes was a known gang member and parole violator. The suit claims officers used excessive force.

City officials declined to comment on the suit. And Chief Dyer said in an email the circumstances of the shooting have not changed and he has no further comment.
