DA reviews assault case against Fresno City College instructor

FRESNO, Calif.

The alleged violence took place at a city college classroom on Friday. Campus police arrested Calhoun but did not take him to jail.

Several students witnessed the incident. One source told Action News the victim was not in Calhoun's class, but was late in leaving a classroom Calhoun was going to use. He allegedly grabbed her as she left the classroom. She struggled. Calhoun sustained a bloody nose.

Calhoun served two terms on the Fresno City Council. After winning reelection in 2004 he was arrested for driving under the influence.

While serving on the council he was known to swear at fellow council members. He previously served as a County Supervisor in Racine, Wisconsin in the 1980's, he got into a shoving match with a fellow supervisor.

ABC30 attempted to contact Calhoun without success.

Fresno City College Campus Police told Action News the case was still under investigation and was referred to the District Attorney on Monday.
