Jose Martinez, 52, of San Pedro, is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair. Lawyer David Geffen says his client suffers from panic attacks and high blood pressure. He says Martinez didn't medically stabilize for three hours after the ride broke down.
"Disneyland Resort believes it provided all appropriate assistance to Mr.and Mrs. Martinez when the ride temporarily stopped and is disappointed that the court did not fully agree," Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said in a statement.
Half the award ordered Friday is for pain and suffering, and the rest is for a violation of disability law. Brown said a single violation concerning the height of the counter in Disneyland's first aid station has since been corrected.
