A non-profit organization that wants to colonize Mars says it has no shortage of people willing to take a one-way trip to the planet.

The group Mars One hopes to establish the first permanent settlement outside of Earth. For the past two weeks, they've been taking applications from people willing to volunteer to be sent to Mars in 2023.

Mars One says a whopping 78,000 people have signed up so far.

Each applicant is required to submit a one minute video explaining why they want to leave Earth and not come back. Mars One says it will continue to take online applications until August 31, 2013.
