Plant removal project provides jobs, helps environment

FRESNO, Calif.

They're being paid to remove weeds and invasive plants along the San Joaquin River in Merced, Madera and Fresno counties.

A major environmental cleanup project along the San Joaquin River is putting people to work

Various grant funds have made it possible for the San Joaquin River Restoration Program to hire the dozens of crew members needed to clear the more than 250 acres of weeds along the river banks.

The project began last fall but officials say is really ramping up right now.

Officials expect the removal process along the San Joaquin River system to continue for years to come.
