The proclamation declared June LGBT pride month in Porterville. But now, several council members want the proclamation rescinded and a resolution be voted on instead, calling June a month of community charity and goodwill to all in Porterville.

Dozens of supporters and opponents to rescind the proclamation took to the floor.

It's not the first time the council has come under fire by gay rights supporters. In 2009, the council faced backlash from the community for publicly supporting Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California.

The city council voted to continue the discussion during the next city council meeting, which takes place July 16th.
