Vice President Biden asks Ecuador's President to refuse asylum

FRESNO, Calif.

Snowden is charged with violating American espionage laws by leaking secret documents.

Ecuador's President, Rafael Correa, announced Saturday he had a "friendly" conversation with Vice President Biden Friday. He said he cannot consider the asylum request until Snowden is actually on Ecuadorian soil.

The U.S. believes Snowden is holed up in a Russian airport's transit zone waiting to see if any country will protect him from extradition.
