Surviving Yarnell hotshot speaks to community

FRESNO, Calif.

Brendan McDonough appeared on stage during Prescott's Frontier Days Celebration. One week after the rest of his hotshot team died while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona.

The Diamondbacks presented him with a team jersey and a check for 400 thousand dollars. Fans of the baseball team raised that money, and McDonough says it will go to families of the fallen firefighters.

"For this community coming together as a family to support us means a lot," McDonough said. "We've not only been crushed as a town, but a nation. And we've all come together, and I want to thank everyone of you."

McDonough served as a lookout for the hotshot crew, and was assigned to a nearby hillside when the flames ran over the rest of his team.
