Malibu to let volunteers issue parking tickets

MALIBU, Calif.

The Malibu City Council has granted the group of about 10 volunteers the power to write citations for cars parked illegally at Paradise Cove, Zuma Beach and other popular locations.

The volunteers are trained and registered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. For now, they're just writing warnings, but that will change to actual tickets by mid-summer.

Since the volunteers work free of charge, the program is expected to bring in revenue to the city.
