Tuesday, participants had the opportunity to meet author Michael Grant, writer of their summer reading book "Gone."

"What I wanna do with kids is strap a rocket to them and fire that baby up," said Grant. "I want them to be entertained I want them to have a good time I want them to be kept up all night. I want them to just sit there snapping through pages under the covers with the flashlight in their hands."

Program councilors say that keeping children engaged when school is out is key to preventing summer setbacks.
