Almond harvest begins early in California

It's been a hot year so far in most parts of California, making almond harvest start a little sooner.

Farmers in Kern County say they are beginning almond harvest a week to 10 days earlier than usual. Almonds are the state's most widely planted orchard crop, and California's top agricultural export.

This is expected to be a big year for almond growers. Forecasters predict farmers will harvest a near-record crop of more than 1.8 billion pounds.
