9 foot bear landmark greets people in Oakhurst

FRESNO, Calif.

A 9-foot tall wooden bear was carved by Oakhurst resident Ryan Demeusy. He originally made it for Dwayne Spooner, who wanted to display the bear in front of his Madera home.

Spooner died just a few months after receiving wooden bear. The city of Oakhurst bought the bear and decided to install it on the Southwest corner on Highways 41 and 49.

Demeusy says he plans on carving another large bear and some smaller ones to make a complete bear family at the intersection.
