Woman accused of stealing more than $35,000 from Bellaire company

HOUSTON

Sarah Dawn Boyer is charged with third-degree felony theft in connection to the case. Her charging documents allege Boyer had been stealing from Ben Shenker Specialties since June 2012 until last month.

Authorities say Boyer was in charge of the company's financial accounts and payroll and had access to all its credit cards and checking accounts.

Investigators believe the thefts started with Boyer using the company accounts to pay for personal expenses, like auto loans, collection agencies and purchase gift cards. Then in January 2013, she began paying herself overtime and bonus checks weekly.

Her employer didn't learn of the alleged theft until he began receiving calls about unpaid bills. He tried confronting Boyer about the bills when she didn't show up for work but she denied everything.

When Boyer didn't show up for work again, he went through her desk to find the account information. That's when he discovered receipts to gift cards and Amazon she bought on the company credit cards.

The employer notified Bellaire police. Investigator thinks Boyer has stolen more than $50,000 from the company but so far, has been able to verify only $35,700, which is enough to charge her with a third-degree felony theft.
