Good Sports: LA Galaxy Academy

FRESNO, Calif.

"I work full time with the LA Galaxy Academy program and so we do a lot of camps and clinics and we're professionals at what we do. And we know how to do it. I think if you have over 200 kids you need to run it like a well-oiled machine," LA Galaxy Academy Director Kevin Eagleston said. "And I think we've somewhat done that."

Patty Lawson brought her two daughters Natalie and Emily to the clinic. She hopes to one day get them college scholarships through the sport of Soccer.

"Oh my god because of the LA Galaxy who wouldn't come out here?" Lawson said. "I've never seen such enthused coaches that that bring the kids, to bring the game to the kids. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I think It's because of the name LA Galaxy that we came out. There is a lot more kids out there than there were last year."

The Galaxy has won four MLS Cups and has signed soccer mega stars like Landon Donovan and David Beckham. The LA Galaxy conducts clinics around the world so they can find the next big thing.

"We are looking for that diamond in the rough. There are kids and there's a lot of talent in this area and we're here to try to spot that and I definitely seen some high level players. It's been a wonderful experience for us; I definitely think that the youth in this area has got a lot of potential." Eagleston added.

The kids are got top level instruction for free thanks to a local sponsor.

"It teaches them a different quality of how to play the game. And having a professional setting like this certainly has motivated a lot of the kids so it's very exciting." Maple Creek Elementary Soccer Program Coordinator Jeff McClelland said.
