Fresno State holds class to raise awareness about alcohol overdose

FRESNO, Calif.

The campaign began last fall after freshman Philip Dhanens died of alcohol poisoning at an off-campus fraternity house. University leaders are asking underage students not to drink at all. Saturday they showed students how to help a friend who may have alcohol poisoning.

"We have always had an alcohol education program. We had plans to run with a designated driver program, but with the unfortunate tragic death of Philip Dhanens, it did cause us to take a look at our program and reprioritize," said Kathy Yarmo, coordinator of Health Promotion and Wellness at Fresno State.

Saturday students also learned CPR in case of emergencies.
