Rally at Courthouse Park promotes immigration reform

FRESNO, Calif.

Organizers are calling for congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform that provides a path to citizenship by the end of the year. They are also registering new voters in hopes of increasing their political influence before the next election. The rally at Courthouse Park featured speakers and performances from several different cultures.

"The immigration problem is not only from Mexico, El Salvador; it's from all the world. So immigration reform not only affects not only undocumented but also to millions of citizens who are in the process to apply for families," Leonel Flores said.

The current government shutdown has stalled the progress of immigration reform. Some continue to oppose a path to citizenship because they feel it rewards people who have entered the country illegally. More rallies are expected to take place on Tuesday.
