Opportunities for holiday employment can be found at many job websites such as Simply Hired or Snag a Job. Type in seasonal job and you will see dozens of listings. Macy's, Toys R Us, and Target are just some of the retail stores hiring for the holiday.
"Just here at my local store I'm looking to hire over 100 people for hourly seasonal positions," said Julia O' Dea with Target Human resources.
Targets nationwide plan to hire 70,000 people, Macy's 83,000 and Toys R Us plans to hire 4,600 in California alone. Toys R Us expects tough competition from its competitors. The company is looking for just the right person, one who can deliver good customer service and understands the importance of helping a family find just the right toy for their child.
Retailers are telling job seekers to go online and apply for holiday jobs. For example at toysrusinc.com you need to go the careers page, identify the state and city where you want to work, and identify the positions you're applying for as part-time or hourly. Toys R Us and Target are just two companies that may ask some of their holiday hires to stay on permanently.
"It's a great way to get your foot in the door; it's a lot of fun," O' Dea said "We encourage everyone to come in store to apply or on the website,"
Large retailers have distribution centers that will also be adding extra workers. The companies that make sure all those holiday packages are delivered on time usually add workers during the shopping season. Last year UPS hired an additional 2,500 workers alone to service Central California.
