A young man is facing DUI charges after a crash that knocked out power to Fresno's Tower District and some surrounding neighborhoods.

Police say 23-year-old Alejandro Lopez rammed his SUV into a power pole near Palm and Thomas just before midnight. The impact sheared off the PG&E pole and knocked down power lines. It also caused his vehicle to flip over and catch on fire.

Witnesses used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames and then pulled Lopez from the SUV. Officers say he was not hurt and he was booked into jail on misdemeanor charges.
