The Diocese of Fresno said it implemented a new financial system in 2008, which included a thorough review of its records. During that time, experts found discrepancies at St. Rita Church in Tulare.
The priest in question was immediately removed from his administrative duties as Tulare police investigated. Their findings have been turned over to the district attorney's office.
Bishop Armando Ochoa released a statement Saturday saying he's deeply concerned about the impact this situations is having on everyone involved.
"My ongoing prayerful support is with the parishioners, staff, and the current administrator, reverend Ivan Hernandez, of whom I have great confidence," Bishop Armando Ochoa said.
