Police say one suspect called 9-1-1 to report the crime himself. They believe he did so to try and throw them off. A woman and her five children were at home when the men broke in.
Fresno police believe Gale Mcqeen, Daniel Reyes and Sammy Moses scouted their victims carefully to make sure they were easy targets. Investigators say the mastermind, Moses, planned at least four home invasions, a carjacking and one robbery where the suspects pointed a gun at a pregnant woman.
"One of the suspects actually placed their gun on the pregnant female's stomach and demanded property from her," Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.
Dyer said even though they didn't harm that woman - the thieves often put others with young children in danger.
"Moses who is a registered sex offender and a gang member and has done significant time in prison for home invasion, robbery, rape," Dyer said.
On Nov. 13 two of the suspects forced their way into an apartment off Dakota Avenue. The victim too described how the men used a gun to scare her and her five children before running away with several electronics.
Danny Golden who lives nearby the victim wants to move.
"Just scary, she was held hostage for a minute, the kids were held hostage. It was just scary," Golden said.
Detectives now know the suspects got away by using apps on their phones to listen to police scanners, as officers searched for them and their car. In at least two crimes they believe Moses called 9-1-1 to report the home invasions himself.
"Perhaps he wanted to readily have his alibi in place as to why he was in the area and say hey I was in the area and I called the police department and I provided my name. I have nothing to hide," Dyer said.
Dyer told Action News the men stole jewelry, iPads, televisions and money. His department got a break in the case after getting a hold of some surveillance video that showed one of the suspect's cars.
