Derek Carr Earns MW Offensive Player of the Year Honors

FRESNO, Calif.

Carr is the third player in Mountain West history to go back-to-back, and second in school history after Kevin Sweeney did it back in 1986.

Wide receiver Davante Adams, offensive lineman Austin Wentworth and free safety Derron Smith joined Carr on the all-Mountain West first team. All four are repeat selections to the first team.

As for the rest of the Fresno State football Bulldogs.

They had another off day Tuesday, and won't practice again until Thursday afternoon for their first practice ahead of the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl against USC.

Last weekend, head coach Tim DeRuyter was surprisingly candid in talking about his affection for the University of Southern California. Growing up in long beach, DeRuyter said he was a fan of the Trojans and joked he was disappointed they didn't offer him a scholarship out of high school.

Maybe that's why he also said he could understand if his Bulldog players also had a little extra motivation heading into the Las Vegas bowl, after being passed over by schools like USC in high school.

ABC30's coverage of the Royal purple Las Vegas Bowl begins at noon on December 21st., with a half hour pregame show before kickoff. We'll have you covered until then with all your Fresno State-USC news and notes.
