A Fresno County sheriff's deputy was hit by two bullets while responding to a call in Squaw Valley but walked away uninjured.

Authorities went to the area of Mistletoe Road and Clearview Lane around 6 p.m. Sunday after getting reports of gunfire. The shots started flying toward the deputies hitting one in his bullet proof vest and pant leg.

Investigators believe they were ricochet shots or fragments. They also say the gunmen were aiming at an embankment or some trees and not the deputies. Authorities recovered a shotgun and some rifles at the scene. They also detained five people for questioning.

Several law enforcement agencies, including Parlier police, Reedley police, and the highway patrol responded to the call.
