Officials say the woman was walking in a traffic lane when she was hit by a passenger car. The driver fled the scene and authorities are searching for the driver. They're also urging witnesses to come forward.

Authorities say the pedestrian was at fault for the crash, but the driver should have remained at the scene. CHP investigators say based on large skid marks seen on the freeway, the driver clearly knew they hit a person.

One lane on Highway 41 south near the Highway 99 interchange was shut down for a brief time, while the CHP investigated the incident and gathered evidence.

Anyone with information about this fatal crash is urged to call CHP.
