Police say Jaime Gomez left the scene after the crash at Shepherd and Chance in Northeast Fresno Wednesday night. They say he then came back, saying he was witness to the crash, and that his girlfriend was trapped in the car. Officers say they noticed pieces of broken glass all over his clothing and determined he was the driver.
The 16-year-old girl is recovering from serious injuries, but she is expected to survive. Investigators say Gomez is on probation and was speeding when he crashed. He now faces several felony charges including auto theft..
