Boy who died on a Sanger soccer field had an enlarged heart

FRESNO, Calif.

Pedro Espinoza, 12, collapsed and died last week at Washington Academic Middle School. Family members say Pedro was out of school for the Martin Luther King holiday when he got a call from a teammate alerting him to practice.

Authorities say Pedro ran about five blocks from his home to campus. Pedro was there less than five minutes when he collapsed. Doctors say Espinoza had an enlarged heart. His heart is being sent to the Bay Area for further study to determine the exact cause of death.
