Mary J. Blige's father stabbed, critically wounded

BATTLE CREEK, Mich.

Police in Battle Creek, Mich. say Thomas Blige was stabbed three times, including once in the neck. According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, the incident occurred inside his home Thursday morning.

The 63-year-old was taken to Kalamazoo's Bronson Methodist Hospital, which says it has no information on his condition.

Detective Sgt. Jim Martens told the Battle Creek Enquirer that police recovered a knife and found Thomas Blige's ex-girlfriend with blood on her clothing.

The woman is being held on attempted murder charges at the Calhoun County Jail. She is expected to be arraigned sometime Friday.

Mary J. Blige has openly spoken about her upbringing and rise from poverty. According to a 2006 interview she did with Oprah Magazine, the singer's father abandoned the family when she was 4 years old. The 43-year-old also said she was sexually violated by a male caretaker the following year.

The singer has not commented on the incident. She is a nominee in this Sunday's 56th Grammy Awards for best rap/sung collaboration with rap artist Kendrick Lamar.
