An Atwater High School student received special recognition for being the winner of last weekend's academic decathlon competition in Merced County.

Eduardo Vera took a stroll down the Atwater High School Walk of Fame Friday morning. All of the students and staff came out of their classrooms to celebrate the 18-year-old senior's accomplishment.

The event was organized to recognize him for finishing with the highest score at the academic decathlon. Eduardo is a standout student on campus. He has taken every AP class the school has to offer and has earned an A in every class.

He's currently ranked the number one senior in his class, with a 4.45 GPA. Eduardo has applied to Cal Poly and UC Berkeley and plans on majoring in architectural engineering.
