A Madera County man is in jail accused of stabbing his brother-in-law, stealing his car, and then ramming it into a CHP vehicle.

It all started around 5:30 Wednesday evening at an orchard near state route 145 and Avenue 9.

Deputies say 24 year old fieldworker Leobardo Martinez, stabbed his brother-in-law in the neck and took off in his car. That's when deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull-over Martinez.

During the chase, they say Martinez intentionally struck a CHP patrol car before crashing into another vehicle. He now faces felony charges including driving under the influence, assault on an officer, and attempted murder.

The victim is expected to be ok.
