Speed and alcohol suspected in deadly Merced crash

MERCED, Calif.

Merced police say a 2004 GMC pickup truck ended up on its roof down in Bear Creek near West 25th Street around 4:45 a.m. Firefighters helped get the unresponsive driver out of the truck, but he was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center. The victim was identified as Daniel Rubalcava.

Based on their preliminary findings, police say it appears the 36-year-old Merced man was speeding when he lost control and flipped his vehicle. They also believe alcohol may have been involved. Officers say there was light rain, and the roads were wet at the time of the accident.
