The coroner's office identified the woman as Leang Kim Uk, 61, of Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol says Uk was walking in and out of traffic on the highway near Grantland Avenue on Thursday night. A female driver tried to swerve, but she was not able to avoid hitting her. The young woman stayed at the scene and will not face any charges.
Investigators are still trying to find the victim's family members and figure out why she was walking on the highway.
