Police investigate a deadly shooting in Central Fresno

Investigators say a street sweeper found the body near Belmont and Diana around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

At this time, Fresno Police are trying to piece together what led to the death of the man. It's unknown if the man was shot to death where he was found or somewhere else.

Around 1:30 Thursday morning Fresno Police officers from the Southwest Division were dispatched to a call at Belmont and Diana for an adult male laying face down in the roadway. A street sweeper found the man's body in the road and could not tell if the victim was breathing.

When officers and emergency personnel arrived, they determined the victim was shot in the upper torso. CPR was initiated and the victim was rushed to CRMC where he was pronounced dead.

Street violence section detectives and patrol were investigating Thursday, trying to identify a suspect.

The identity of the victim is undetermined at this time. Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect are urged to call crime stoppers at 498-STOP.
