A tight knit Valley community is banding together to help one of their own.

Officer Jon Linzey who was stabbed several time in the back of the head in 2012, is now battling another serious medical condition.

Jon Linzey was a Fresno State football player in college and spent the last 10 years working as a police officer. He's known as a very caring family man who could use your help tonight.

Linzey has a devoted wife and an eight month old baby, Elijah. The highly respected Fresno police officer worked alongside Raven Masse's husband. "Dependable happy to be around, not just someone who is going to bring you down, he lifts you up he is appreciative he is humble, he is just all around really good guy," said Masse.

On September 10, 2012 Linzey was seriously hurt on duty. That's the day went to help a frantic caller who said she and her roommate had been stabbed. The woman passed away while Linzey was left with stab wounds in the back of his head.

After taking time off to recover he went back on patrol with the department but earlier this year he started getting extreme headaches. Doctors diagnosed him with an abnormal development in the back of the brain. The painful condition wasn't related to the attack but he needed invasive brain surgery, fast.

His colleagues have already donated their vacation and sick hours so he can spend more time with pay at home. "I think they probably realize that it could happen to them, that could be their loved one," added Masse.

But the toughest challenge for his young family has been affording all the medical care he needs.
