Car wash held to help family of murdered Parlier football coach

PARLIER, Calif.

Arthur "Artie" Gomez was killed at his home last Friday. Fresno County Sheriff's deputies say his neighbor, Joel Valera, shot him because of an argument over trash in the yard.

On Saturday, dozens of players, coaches and parents from the Parlier Panthers Youth Football program held a car wash fundraiser for Gomez's widow and children. They say many people showed up from Selma, Visalia and other parts of the Valley to show their support.

"There are no words you can say. He touched a lot of lives, and it's awesome just to see the overwhelming support of the Valley," said James Rodriguez with the football program.

Along with the car wash, people were also invited to a boot camp at the Parlier High School gym in exchange for a $10 donation.

A memorial fund has been set up at Bank of the West to help the family of Arthur Gomez.
