The illiteracy rate in Tulare County is close to 32 percent. Disney, ABC Television, First Book and ABC30 are teaming up to donate 10,000 books to Read for Life. The Tulare County organization helps put books into the hands of children in need.
More than 8,000 books were collected in Visalia. This is on top of the 10,000 books that Disney, ABC Television, First Book and ABC30 donated.
Read for Life is a family-based literacy program that encourages parents to provide the foundation for reading beginning at birth. Read for Life knows that children from families who read together have a greater potential for success in school. Read for Life is committed to breaking the cycle of illiteracy through early intervention, direct service projects and community awareness.
