The wife of a fallen California Highway Patrol officer is keeping the couple's dream alive by opening a new kickboxing studio in North Fresno.

Fight Girl Fitness on Blackstone Avenue near Bullard Avenue held its open house on Saturday. Rebecca Law -- the widow of Officer Brian Law -- owns the gym. The couple was planning on opening it together before he died last month while responding to an accident.

The gym caters to a female base in hopes of getting more women involved who might not be comfortable in a class with an overwhelming number of men.

"It's primarily male-dominated and a lot of women feel intimidated by that," said Thomas Roman, an MMA specialist trainer. "So over here you got the pink punching bags for example. Most of the people training, or 100 percent of them are female."

Classes start on Monday. Next Saturday, UFC fighter Chuck Liddell is scheduled to make a personal appearance at Fight Girl Fitness.
