Man attacked with mallet in Central Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

Fresno police first went to Cortland Avenue near Maroa Avenue around 8 p.m. Sunday for reports of a man who was hit in the head with an axe. Then they were told he was shot in the head. But the investigation finally revealed he was hit in the head with a mallet several times.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Scott, 27. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Officers arrested Raymond Spencer, 52, for the attack. The suspect claimed he was only trying to stop Scott from beating up his brother after a day of playing horse shoes and drinking whiskey together.
