Anel Baez, 16, asked Erandy Elizabeth Gutierrez, also 16, over to her home in the city of Guamúchil, in the state of Sinaloa, which is located in northern Mexico, to try and patch things up, according to Mexican media reports.
Police say Gutierrez grabbed a knife while in Baez's kitchen and stabbed her repeatedly with it. Gutierrez then fled the scene.
Several days later, she was arrested while attending Baez's funeral.
According to Notus, Gutierrez threatened Baez on Twitter in the weeks before the alleged murder.
The site reports she wrote on a now-deleted Twitter account, "It may seem that I am very calm, but in my head I have killed you at least three times."
The suspect, Gutierrez, is expected to be charged with murder. But under Mexican law, she is still a minor, and may only face seven years in prison if convicted.
