Tulare County was initially awarded $40 million to replace the aging "men's correctional facility" north of Visalia -- with a brand new 384-bed jail.
But Stanislaus County recently won a court appeal -- moving it up the list of jails getting money to fix their jails.
Tulare County lost $7million in the reshuffle so -- it now gets $33 million.
The board of supervisors voted four-to-one to ask for an extension to see if the state can give them the money next year.
