Fresno apartment fire destroys two units

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire broke out just around 7 a.m. on Wednesday at a small apartment building on Calaveras and McKenzie in Central Fresno. The fire destroyed two of the four units of the apartment, but families in all four units were forced out as firefighters needed to shut off power to the entire building.

Firefighters said one of the upstairs apartments had several baby chickens living inside. They said the chickens were rescued, but did suffer smoke inhalation.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. Nobody was injured in the blaze.
