Tulare teen hospitalized after officer-involved shooting

FRESNO, Calif.

Tulare police said the 16-year-old boy was armed with a handgun at the time of the incident -- and the handgun was recovered at the scene. Authorities said the teen who was shot was rushed to the hospital shortly after the incident. The teen is listed as stable.

Neighbors said they heard the officers shouting, and then about two gunshots. Moments later they say they saw swarms of police officers.

Police said they are investigating if the teen had any gang affiliations. Tulare police have called in the Tulare County Sheriff's Office to take over the investigation. The officer who opened fire has been placed on administrative leave -- which the Tulare Police Department says is standard policy.
