It happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday at a home on Orangeburg Avenue. Modesto police say a 13-year-old girl stabbed another 13-year-old and an 11-year-old before stabbing herself. Two of them are sisters, and the other is believed to be a friend.
Neighbors are now trying to make sense of the violent attack.
"My daughter used to go over there, play with them all the time, and stay the night with them. She could have been in the house last night. She could have been over there, or it could have happened at one of the sleepovers she was at," said Nicole Rico.
Authorities are still investigating a motive for the stabbings. All three girls were initially listed in critical condition, but the 11-year-old has now been released from the hospital.
