Forty years ago, two Fresno State students started a rape crisis hotline after another student was assaulted on campus.

More than 200 people gathered on Saturday to mark that milestone. The fundraiser at Unitarian Universalist Church in Northeast Fresno included a dinner and auction. Action News reporter Sontaya Rose served as emcee and ABC30 was a proud sponsor.

Organizers say one in three women and one in six men will be affected by unwanted or coercive sexual relationships at some point, but many cases still go unreported.

Rape Counseling Services of Fresno is still working to change that through its 24-hour crisis line. The number is (559) 222-7273.
